I got that Boom Boom Pow!

This week’s featured bargain of the week is not technically a bargain as it didn’t actually cost me anything! *result*

I’m lucky to have a really cool job working in a magazine and one of the perks of the job is always getting free stuff!

I have a weakness for anything sparkly and also nail related- so this caught my eye on the freebee shelf and I snapped it up immediately! This luxurious gold glitter nail polish by Deborah Lippmann is called Boom Boom Pow and is apparently infused with real 24 Karat Gold Dust!! *BLING* When I Googled shopping results for the nail varnish, I discovered it sells at around £18!! *DOUBLE BLING*

I used it over a mettalic gold and gave the glitter about 3 coats to really make it sparkle! I know it’s not the cheapest, but if you’re going for a really sparkly mani, then this is the polish to use. I love this look and can’t stop looking at my nails- it’s a wonder I’m getting anything done at all!

Also, now I can’t get this song out of my head:

The best thing on the internet today!!

When you get a chance today, take a minute to enjoy today’s ‘Google doodle’ on the Google home page. It is so much fun and the best one I have ever seen!!

In honour of the 78th birthday of music pioneeer and inventor Robert Moog, it features a working synthesiser that can be played with mouse or keyboard.

The fun doesn’t stop there- also, there’s a record button and you can then playback the tunes you play! Impressed and entertained- not sure it’ll make for 100% productivity today at work though! ;P

Christian Louboutin exhibition

I made a trip down to the design museum in London at the weekend to see the Christian Louboutin exhibition and I’m so glad I did.

Now, I’m not one to obsess over heels, nor do I own a pair of Louboutins, but none the less, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

From the moment I stepped through the almost circus-like entrance, I was excited to see what was inside. The exhibition is laid out beautifully with gorgeous typography on the wall that tells the story of his early career and how he draws on his interests in things like landscape gardening and dance for design inspiration.

Also, lots and lots of shoes!!! It’s every fashionista’s dream shoe wardrobe filled with Louboutin’s most iconic, memorable and some pretty bonkers shoe creations.

My favourite feature was the showcase of sketches and and designs laid out in a glass box with sheets of pre-cut leather and personal notes made by Louboutin himself. There is a hologram of Dita Von Teese as part of the show also, but the day I was there, the museum had ‘technical difficulties’ so I didn’t get to see it. :(

If you can make it to the exhibition, I highly recommend it. It’s there until 1 July 2012 and admission is £10 – worth every penny. The simplest way to some it up in one word– fun!

Here’s a video trailer of the exhibition;

Pretty green

I found these lovely little gems in Peacocks for £2!! In the running up to the Paddy’s day celebrations, I’m thinking of green clothes and accessories to wear and snatched these up as soon as I saw them. I love a good bargain!

Faux leather, but a genuine bargain!!

Here I am again with another bargain!! I don’t mean to brag but I was so thrilled with my latest find, I just had to share it. I had been looking for a biker jacket for ages and there are of course, loads to be found on the high street and online etc. I like to shop around and get the best value for money, and I don’t like to spend a fortune on clothes. So when I was in my local shopping centre at the weekend, I came across this little gem for only £10!! Now I have a cool new jacket without doing any major damage to my bank balance!

New Hair! *again*

Anyone who has known me long enough is only too familiar with my ever changing hair colour. In the past twelve months I’ve been blonde, brunette, a red head and now am currently back to brunette.

Let me tell you, if you dye your hair red and want to go back, colouring over it is no good. The only way to get rid of it is by using chemicals to strip away the colour. Sounds scary and expensive doesn’t it?! I know from experience that it’s definitely the latter.

I’m not exactly rolling in the dough right now so I find it hard to justify paying a hairdresser a hundred and fifty quid or so to do something I could potentially do myself.

So here’s where I took a major beauty gamble and decided to remove the red colour from my hair DIY style. Not to worry though, it all worked out for the best, which is why I am sharing this fab product I discovered on the shelf of Boots.

It’s called Colour B4 and promises to lift dark hair dye and restore hair to the lighter colour it was before. It did exactly as promised and I am delighted with the results ….and the £12.95 price!

I’ve had hair disasters before so I followed the application instructions to the letter.
If you’re going to try this, be warned- it stinks! It has quite an ‘eggy’ smell and according to the instructions heat activates the process so the draught of an open window might impeed the developing.

After 30 minutes of having my wrapped in cling-film, I rinsed it out and all the red colour was gone and I looked like this:

I decided to give my hair (and myself) a break and finished off my hair the next day. I used a brown hair dye and about a year’s supply of conditioner to undo any damage I caused and now my hair is just the way I wanted it- for now anyway! ;)

I love Penneys!

On a flying visit over the water to Ireland last weekend, I had a chance to pop in to Penneys for a look and came across a little gem that is my Bargain of the week.

This pink cardigan was only €16 and they also have it in cream. I’m well chuffed as I love it on and I’m a sucker for a bargain– (especially when it’s something that doesn’t really look like it’s from Penneys)
